What Is Addiction

Addiction Is A Worship Disorder

Now I know that I am ruffling The feathers of many hard core "Addiction is a Disease" folk, this Is not My aim nor am I trying to set a precedent. Just sharing the truth One Bite at a time.

I have searched my heart, my Bible, read many reports claiming different theological and scientific explanations. I had questions, doubts, unanswered problems but most importantly I realized it just could not be the truth. Addiction Just is not a Disease. As much as I myself wanted it to be.

Our Society handles things as though they are God. Doctors do this, Scientist do this, and to tell you the truth we all do this at times, I know I have. I remember a time when my son and I were building a huge Lego project with his new a gears and motors kit. It was pretty neat I might say. We came up with this really cool project that was like a giant construction site. There were cranes, trucks, pulleys and all kinds of neat things ( Ok maybe I was to involved) for him to play with. After we finished I went to study in my office. A little time had passed and I heard screams' and other noises coming from his bedroom. I ran over to his room with a little haste, for it sounded kind of desperate. As I opened his door I could see  our mighty project sprawled out on the floor. His tears were genuine as he looked up and cried "Daddy, can you fix this" . It was all I could do to fight back my own tears and grins for it was a sight. An hour later he was off again playing and I was "The Man" who could fix things. It was not the same as it was before because frankly I couldn't remember how we made it but it satisfied him for a while. That is until he said to me " Didn't we have a scooper truck over here"  Opps! I forgot the scooper truck.

That story depicts what all us men like to say "I can fix this" its our God complex. We can fix just about anything.....Right Honey? Don't ask my wife please. So that is how I view our society trying to fix this thing called "Addiction" . We have had a lot of very intelligent people trying to "fix" this social disaster. There has to be some kind of solution, some piece of information we are missing, or maybe we just can't remember. I believe the later.

I believe we have forgotten who created this marvelous thing called humanity. I believe Doctors are stumped, scientists perplexed, and we "addicts" with our "its not my responsibly" syndrome have concocted a great story to appease all of society, its a disease.

Instead of butting heads lets take it from an Intellectual stand point:

Scientists abide by certain rules to identify and treat diseases. If we are to take seriously the assertion that Internet addiction is a treatable disease, it is necessary to inquire as to whether the rules for diagnosis and disease classification are applied and abided by it in responsible and meaningful ways.

Diseases are physical. They are diagnosed by symptoms (complaints) and signs (lesions), or by signs alone (asymptomatic diseases). They are rarely diagnosed on the basis of symptoms alone (there are a few exceptions, such as migraine headaches). "Addiction" is not listed in standard textbooks of pathology because it does not meet the nosological criteria for disease classification. This is because addiction is "diagnosed" solely on the basis of symptoms. There are no signs of addiction. All pathologists agree: Addiction is not a disease.

OK Than Ron What Is It?

I'm Glad You Asked. Do You Want the Good News or the bad news? I'll give you the bad news first.

Romans 7:15 - 21 (NLT)

15I don’t understand myself at all, for I really want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate. 16I know perfectly well that what I am doing is wrong, and my bad conscience shows that I agree that the law is good. 17But I can’t help myself, because it is sin inside me that makes me do these evil things.

18I know I am rotten through and through so far as my old sinful nature is concerned. No matter which way I turn, I can’t make myself do right. I want to, but I can’t. 19When I want to do good, I don’t. And when I try not to do wrong, I do it anyway. 20But if I am doing what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing it; the sin within me is doing it. 21It seems to be a fact of life that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong.

This sounds just like many people in the rooms where I attended, people I have met, and myself included. These words were penned two thousand years ago by one of the most intelligent men of his time, Saul of Tarsus. Educated at Jerusalem in the school of Gamaliel, a zealous Pharisee from the tribe of Benjamin, this man knew right from wrong. This man of all men understood what addiction was. He called it sin.

Now the Good News:

There is a cure For Sin!! Praise God. It is In the Blood Of Jesus Christ. Now Unfortunately it is not handled by your local pharmacists. It is not synthesized in a lab or given in any kind of pill form. It is simply poured over your body when you believe in the redemptive powers of God him self. Just Like going to the doctor when you need to. We can take our broken and damaged life and ask "Daddy can you fix this"  And guess what? He can Fix this!

Ok I didn't say you would Like what the truth is; all I said is I would tell you the truth. Next time I would like to explain just what the cure is. Until than this was:

Just another Byte of Truth.
